Something for your boys. “Camporee” is an amazing opportunity for lots of fun while practicing scout skills. It' s a district wide event where various troops compete in skills and games. There are three scored activities. The gateway competition, a structure made of poles and lashings that defines the entry to the campsite, the campsite competition which scores cleanliness and campsite appearance, and the games which are played throughout the day. The best troop overall gets the shovel, a symbol of excellence. Although Troop 330 did outstanding and won 1st place in gateway and campsite competitions, we did not bring the shovel home as we did not score enough on the games. In summary, Camporee is a greatly planned event with friendly competition! Jorge Salazar, Historian, Montebello Boy Scout Troop 330.

Clean Tech Costs Fall, Renewable Power Use Rises. The Department of Energy is reporting some hard figures that help explain the recent boom in the clean tech industry: 1) the cost of solar panels has dropped 75 percent since 2008 2) the cost of LED lights has fallen 85 percent in the same time and 3) electric vehicles now cost 50 percent less than in 2010. Lower costs have been predicted since the beginning of the renewable power industry, as innovations move to mass manufacturing and as R & D experiments result in scalable production and larger sales. Lower costs plus high consumer demand are generating new profits for those pioneering companies who are creating the energy of the future, now.
