Plus, there is a lot of reverse issues as well. Knowledge is our key. Scoutmaster Cindy Farber, Boy Scout Troop 330, Montebello, August 14, 2013

... Traditions, and the stories they tell about one’s family, play an important role in shaping a child’s personal identity. Psychologist Marshal Duke has found that children who have an intimate knowledge of their family’s history are typically more well-adjusted and self-confident than children who don’t. There’s something about understanding your past and knowing you belong to something bigger than yourself that instills confidence. ... Researchers have consistently found that families that engage in frequent traditions report stronger connection and unity than families that haven’t established rituals together. Can our Montebello businesses be like Tiffany's? Luxury brands aren’t often mentioned in the same sentence as CSR and sustainability, but Tiffany’s latest news turns that truism on its head. The high-end purveyor of classy jewelry and accessories traces 98 percent of its precious metals and all of its rough diamonds to known mines. All of its suppliers for bags and boxes are Forest Stewardship Council-certified, and a new bag made with 50 percent post-consumer recycled content has been introduced. There’s more, spelled out in its 2012 CSR report, but you get the idea. When top value consumers look for their premium purchases to be provided by a company that integrates CSR and sustainability into its operations at every level, that’s a real change in business as usual. ...
